I was so glad to be part of the CSA PGH 2014 season, in its second year to encourage people to collect art and support local artists. This is the visual art part of the CSA program, the other part is for performing arts (which I am also part of, coincidentally). This program is very cool, run by some of the best people in the city.
First Place Woman Transformed 50 Times on May 16, 2014 was my contribution. It is the second manifestation of my ongoing series 'First Place Woman' and in this work I took a single trophy and allowed it transform 319 times in my studio with a wide variety of materials. I took photographs throughout the process and printed the 50 best as my contribution for the CSA.
From the website: Community Supported Art (CSA PGH) is a program that builds lasting relationships with artists and cultural consumers. Not unlike the boxes of fruit and vegetables that one might get from a local farm as an agricultural CSA, the CSA PGH creates “shares” of art to feed the public’s cultural appetite. Artists are commissioned to produce one edition-able work in a quantity of 50. Examples of creations might include photographs, small paintings or cast sculpture. These artworks are packaged, collated, and packaged into individual shares. Each share includes one work from each of the artists, and 50 identical shares will be made available to the public for a reasonable price.
