About: SLATE BEDS FOR .... are an ongoing collection of small pieces of slate that I paint and turn into small beds. It came to me naturally when I was collecting slate out of the slate bed in Frick Park, and realized how funny it would be to make slate beds for the slate bed from the slate bed. And so it began. They are now a part of my studio practice, a thing to make when my hands don't know what else to do and I only have a little time. I enjoy them and am inspired by thinking about how we rest upon the earth, what a bed really is for us, and what our connection to the ground is. A bed is an intimate space for our bodies to rest, and our minds to dream, and I like making these to honor that important part of our daily lives. They function between painting and sculpture, toy and art. I give them to children and I give them to collectors. It is all the same thing after all.
