Character Study #03: My Other Side
Photographs, Video and Choreography
Currently in-development
Begun Spring 2015

Character Studies are ways to develop characters and ideas with other performers, and myself, in my studio and out in the world.  The function is to develop these characters for a cinematic video that will be released with a world premiere at Pittsburgh Filmmakers in Spring 2016.   When complete, the body of work will contain a 25-minute cinematic video, an edition of photographs, a book of drawings, an album of songs and music, and choreography for live performance.

The third character study emerged when I turned around and suddenly there was another side of me.  I shaved the back of my head to create a space for drawing, and what is emerging is exciting and liberating. This character is continuing to evolve, and performs exclusively with her back-as-front, challenging and pushing me to develop new ways of being, seeing, and moving in the world.  I am also extremely interested in the interaction with this character and my own large-scale drawings that behave as back-drops.

The project is generously funded by the Investing in Professional Artists Residency Grant, a joint partnership of the Heinz Endowments and the Pittsburgh Foundation.  The residency is with Pittsburgh Filmmakers.
